Is 300mm Enough For Bird Photography? – A Pros Opinion

    https://birdwatchworld.com/is-300mm-enough-for-bird-photography/
A 300mm focal length will fill the frame with a bird around 20cm tall from 4.7m away, using a camera with a 1.5x crop sensor. Most backyard birds will allow a human to approach within 4 or 5 meters. Images can also be cropped in post-processing to achieve the effect of greater zoom.

Is 300mm Enough for Wildlife and Bird Photography? (Answered)

    https://birdgap.com/300mm-wildlife-bird-photography/
A 300mm lens is enough for wildlife and bird photography. With a lens of this focal length, you’ll be able to capture detail from a distance, even when focusing on small subjects like songbirds. Look for a lens with a fast speed to make sure that you can capture a moving subject without blur. Finding the Right Lens for Wildlife and Bird Photography

how about canon 300MM f2.8 for bird and wildlife

    https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2142448
300mm f2.8 + 1.4x = 400mm f4 This is a fairly large, heavy combo but still fairly sharp. The 400mm f5.6 costs about 1/4 as much, will be around the same sharpness, doesn't have IS but is considerably lighter. 300mm is too short for me to use for bird photography, I use a 500mm f4, and even that is frequently not ideally long.

The 300 f/2.8 is simply large, heavy, costly and among the very very best Nikon has to offer. It's not just about the an extra bit of depth of field (less), but it's about a lens built with far less compromises.

300mm f/2.8L IS II vs 400mm f/4 DO II on 1Dx for birds?

    https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3970465
I had the old 400 DO (two different units) and when I tested that lens vs my 300mm f/2.8 IS w/1.4x II the 300 rig was crisper looking and more detailed, the same was the case when I compared the 400mm w/1.4x and the 300 + 2x. ... I do quite a bit of bird photography and I own both the latest 300mm f2.8 and 400mm DO MkII lenses. Personally, I ...
