In reply to cybergeek • Aug 21, 2017. One thing to consider about the 16-35mm III for astrophotography is the increased level of vignetting compared to the previous 16-35 model. Fixing the +4 stops of vignetting results in more noise in the corners. In the review below, Dustin talks in some detail about the vignetting.

But if I were going to go with one lens for both, I'd still opt for the 16-35mm f4 for the corners. I'd just bump the ISO and stack your images for some noise reduction. Or with the difference in price between the 16-35mm 2.8 vs f4, you could buy the samyang 14mm and the 16-35mm f4 for a cheaper price than the single 2.8.

Following on from my testing of the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM, I managed to get my hands on a lens I have been hoping to shoot with for some time: the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM.. It’s another wide-angle lens but this time the maximum aperture is f/1.4. That means it allows a huge amount of light into the camera, making it perfect for low-light photography.

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens utilizes Canon's excellent Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) AF.
