The 70-300 is an incredible all-around travel lens. The regular 70-300 is fine for snapshots, but doesn't offer anywhere near the quality of Canon's pro lenses. You won't be happy with wildlife shot at 300mm with the regular lens. If you're worried about low light, though, I would also consider the 70-200 2.8 II L lens.

    https://birdgap.com/300mm-wildlife-bird-photography/
A 300mm lens is enough for wildlife and bird photography. With a lens of this focal length, you’ll be able to capture detail from a distance, even when focusing on small subjects like songbirds. Look for a lens with a fast speed to make sure that you can capture a moving subject without blur. Finding the Right Lens for Wildlife and Bird Photography

I personally own the 70-300mm VR lens. It is a decent lens. But 300mm is the very start of the wildlife lens series. Meaning if you are interested in Birding and Wildlife, 300mm is claimed to be the minimum required focal length. I am an amateur photographer.
