ISO - Can go up to 3200 max. Aperature - F.3.4 to F 6.5. Shutter speed - 1/2000 to 15 sec. Lens: 4.3 - 215mm. Again, I am aware of the fact that the limitations of this Point and Shoot camera are big when it comes to astrophotography. But I still believe you can capture something with it (besides the moon).

Reading articles on astrophotography using point and shoot cameras here and here, I decided to give it a try using my own. I have a Canon PowerShot SX510 HS. I put the camera in Manual (M) mode and set it to focus on infinity. Then I set the minimum possible shutter speed which for my camera is 15 sec. The articles mentioned above advise to use ...

As an owner of SX50 HS, I can clarify a few points that the other answers have left dangling. Exposures longer than 1.0 second requires ISO 80 setting.
