    The Photography Study Room is available to the public, by appointment only, to view selections from the Art Institute’s photography collection. You may discuss your photography interests with the collection manager at the time an appointment is scheduled. Groups and individuals are welcome. Study room hours are by appointment only.

    Photography Policies The use of personal scanners is not allowed in the reading room. The use of professional photography equipment, including tripods, lighting equipment, and copy stands, is not permitted in the reading room. Digital photography of non-archival items is permitted, but please turn off the camera’s flash.

    If a work of art is not framed or protected by a vitrine or case, sketchers are asked to remain at least five feet away from the art. Paper and pads must be no larger than 13 x 17 inches. Easels, stools, or anything that interferes with movement in the gallery are not permitted. Can I take my wedding or engagement photos at the museum?

    Hours: The museum is currently open Monday and Thursday–Sunday: 10–11 a.m. for members only and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. for all visitors. We are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. From June 23, 2022 through September 1, 2022, the museum will be open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. 2. Transactions: Advance ticket purchase is required.
