Combermere Abbey Photograph – Mysterious Britain & Ireland

    In December 1891, Sybell Corbet took an interesting photograph of the library at Combermere Abbey. When the film was developed the ghost like image of a figure could be seen sitting in one of the chairs. This figure was tentatively identified as Lord Combermere who’s funeral was taking place at the time the photograph was taken.

    The second Lord Combermere passed away in 1891; and whilst his funeral was taking place on the 5th December at St. Margaret’s church in Wrenbury, Sybell Corbet, whose sister Lady Sutton was renting the Abbey for herself and her siblings to stay, took a photo of the wonderful Combermere Library with a long exposure camera.

    On the same day a woman named Sybell R. Corbet set up a long exposure camera to take a picture of the library of Combermere Abbey, located about two miles away from Wrenbury. The timing of the matter was practical; very few people were in the house, so the photo should not have been disturbed if left for a long exposure.
