    In practice, the method you describe (Raw > high quality jpeg> print), works very well, speaking from experiance. In some cases it is more conveniant to have a 3MB jpeg than a 35MB Tiff. Just make sure you upres the image before it is a jpeg (so you wont upres the compression artifacts).
