- One of Oregon’s first distinguished photographers was Peter Britt. This Swiss immigrant was a man of many trades and his 1874 photograph of Crater Lake may be the first taken there. - William George Alexander (1880-1960) was born in Kansas. He operated a photography studio in Rainier, Oregon in 1910, and moved his studio to Douglas, Washington by 1915. He was active in Amira and Creston, Washington circa 1913-1916. After World War I, Alexander became a wheat farmer in Eastern Washington until his death.
