In reply to Astrophotographer 10 • Jan 10, 2013. I have minimal experience with astrophotography through camera lenses on standard non-tracking tripod, having tried the Sigma DP2M 30mm (45mm FF equivalent) at f/2.8, 15 sec to 30 sec, ISO 400 and 1600. Naturally, I got very sharp and very short trails, 4x long as wide.

Is The Foveon Sensor Still Relevant? – PhotoPXL

    https://photopxl.com/is-the-foveon-sensor-still-relevant/
The Foveon sensor is designed to take account of the fact that different wavelengths of light penetrate the sensor to different depths. Consequently, there is no need for the Foveon sensor to have a “grid” (the Bayer Array) and complex algorithms to interpret the colors that reach the sensor.

An Ode to the Sigma Foveon Sensor - Medium

Foveon exploits this by reading how deeply a photon penetrates into the sensor to measure full color information at each pixel location. The below image is a simplification, but gives you an idea...

Evaluation of the Foveon X3 sensor for astronomy

    https://www.eso.org/sci/meetings/2009/dfa2009/Writeups/WR-Lesage.pdf
Abstract oveonF X3 is a new type of CMOS colour sensor. We present here an ealuationv of this sensor for the detection of transit planets. Firstly, we determined the gain , the dark current and the read out noise of each layer. Then the sensor was used for observations of auT Bootes. Finally half of the transit of HD 189733 b could be observed.

Why no foveon astro cameras? - Imaging - Stargazers Lounge

    https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/96583-why-no-foveon-astro-cameras/
In princple, a Foveon chip should blow a OSC camera out of the water for colour imaging - so why don't we see cooled Foveon astro CCD cameras on the market? NigelM. Link to comment ... Hi, I am interested in the work on using Foveon sensor for astrophotography. I recently got an SD10 camera and started some tests - nothing profound yet. ...

The Foveon - Digital Astrophotography - Bedford Astronomy Club

    https://www.astronomyclub.xyz/digital-astrophotography-2/the-foveon.html
In principle, this should be a good approach, but so far, the Foveon has not found extensive use in astrophotography, and no one has reported any great success with it. Some confusion is created by the fact that Foveon, Inc., insists on counting all three layers in the advertised megapixel count, so that, for example, their "14.1-megapixel ...
