There was one specific A6000 related issue with the shoot though. Because of the Sony's 16:9 screen, the image doesn't fill the frame, and when most of it is black anyway, it's hard to see the edge of the frame. This makes …

Your kit lens is 16-50mm, so you can use the wider end of your kit lens at max aperture. You may have to increase your ISO but try not to go higher than ISO3200. Set your shutter to between 20 seconds or shorter. Just do some post processing to correct exposure because aperture of 3.5-5.6 is not very big.

(Above) Some examples taken with the Sony A6000 & 18-55mm Kit lens. Even so, I was surprised at the quality I was getting, especially from the lens. Images were very sharp, especially at the centre. I was shooting handheld too, so that was an even bigger surprise. The stabiliser in the 18-55 works quite well.

I am curious about Sony A6000 but haven't seen many reviews online. Thus, Sony A6000 interests me but I do not know how it compares with Canons and Nikons(7D and 7100 respectively). I want to invest in a camera which serves me well for next 2-3 years, also considering native and interchangeable lens.

Point your camera to the sky generally at the Milky Way (just take your best guess). Find a bright star that shows up as a pinpoint in your viewfinder and manually focus until that star is clear (infinite focus won’t work neither will auto focus). Click the shutter button and wait the 20-25 seconds for the exposure.
