Your best bet, given your requirements, would be the DA* 16-50 f2.8. It's a great lens, similar in range to your kit (wider, though) and extremely good. If you want a fast wide, the DA 21 Limited is fantastic for bokeh and colours. It's f3,2, decently fast but not the fastest for action shots. You can find used AF 28mm f2,8 lenses quite often.

HelP!! What lens is best for gig photography??!

Just to clear something up, you don't want a macro lens and the 28mm isn't a macro. It really depends how far away you'll be, the cheap 50mm f1.8 is ok however it isn't very good at focussing in low light which is an issue. If you'll be close the 28mm f1.8 or Sigma 30mm f1.4 will be good, a little further away the 85mm f1.8 are good choices.

You need a really fast film or high digital ISO, up to 3200 in dark venues, and the lens wide open at something like f2.8, if you can get your subject sharp with this. I’m usually shooting in Aperture Priority mode, so the aperture stays fixed and the shutter speed will flit around a bit.

Taken at Manchester Arena with Canon 550d/50mm 1.8. As you get more used to your set up, start thinking of getting more lenses. Nowadays I have a 5ds, 6d with 50mm 1.4, 70-200 f4 l, 24-105 f4 l and a fish eye lens. A good zoom I bought for Festivals, the fish eye for cramped metal gigs, the 50mm for badly lit dives.

Budget Concert Photography Equipment for Beginners

Your First Camera Lens for Concert Photography Canon 50mm f1.8. For novice concert photographers on a budget I would recommend the cheap 50mm f1.8 prime lens (it’s available for all brands and is a no-brainer!) because of its ability to shoot in low-light at its highest aperture setting. This lens is made of plastic, is small, lightweight and unobtrusive.
