If the wedding takes place in a church, the church’s rules will guide what your lens choices are. Some churches require you to stay no closer than the last row of guests (obviously in that scenario, a long lens is best). Some churches are more liberal in letting you move around & allow you to come in closer.

Photographing friends wedding in church, which lens? - Pentax

Last wedding I shot I had one body with FA*24 and one with FA*85. For pictures inside the dim church concentrate on using the 50/1.4 as good as you can. Kit lens is a waste of time if you have this option. Then use the kit when light is good. Shame on you for not having decent Pentax lens...

Prime lenses have wider apertures, allowing more light into the camera’s sensor. This is not to say that you should only shoot with prime lenses in a dark church, but if you are struggling to get enough light, the wide aperture of a prime lens can certainly help. Use Your Settings Wisely

A 70-200mm f/2.8 makes a wedding photographer invisible. You don’t have to be close to people’s faces; you can capture candid expressions and serendipitous moments from a fair distance away. This lens is especially useful during the wedding ceremony, when you would rather be far away and out of sight or hidden behind a wall or door.

When we shot weddings, during the ceremony we stayed at the very back of the church behind the guests. We would place the camera (Mamiya RZ67) on a tripod and use the longest lens we had, the 180mm portrait lens. We would shoot stills with that during the ceremony, on Kodak TPZ, which if I recall correctly was an ISO 800 film.

Frustratingly cannot use flash in church ceremonies. Or any ceremonies. Thanks Every wedding photographer will have different ways of doing things, personally we have never been fans of using zoom lenses for weddings, we just think the images even using the high end zooms are a bit meh. We mainly use 24GM, 35GM, 50GM and the 85GM
