    If you want to shoot bugs look at the EF-S 60mm macro, or if you're on a budget the EF 50mm f/2.5 compact macro (the compact-macro only gets half as the 60mm, but it gets about 3 times closer than then 50 f/1.8) If you want to shoot macro with the 50 1.8, you'll need to purchase extension tubes. -- ~K kb2zuz's gear list:

    My favorite lenses are my Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 and Nifty Fifty. The 28-135mm lens I have had for years and years and used it originally on my Canon Elan (a film camera). I have had the nifty fifty for over two years and it is still working flawlessly. I honestly have a passion for photography and I am constantly playing with my camera.

    Magnification of the nifty fifty alone is only 0.15x, but mount it on a 25mm extension tube and you're at 0.65x, and with both a 25mm and 12mm (or the kenko 36mm) it's more like 0.89x (very close to true macro 1.0x). Kenko tubes are your cheapest way to get into the macro range with the nifty fifty.
