- We used optogenetic manipulations to enable new ways of evoking spike patterns with different timing, and showed that the timing of spikes had little effect on subjects’ behavior (Histed and Maunsell, 2014.) Recordings from neurons showed linear response summation in the cortex, supporting the balanced-state theory of cortical network function.
