    They also captured photos of this nearby world that human eyes had never seen before. Once such image was taken of crater Copernicus on 24 November 1966 by the Lunar Orbiter 2 spacecraft. What made this photo so unique was the oblique angle it was taken at as well the close proximity of the spacecraft to its target.

    The Lunar Orbiter Recovery Project based at Moffett Field CA has produced a phenomenal mosaic of the Copernicus crater floor. The mosaic was created by combining 24 high resolution images taken by Lunar Orbiter V on 16 August 1967.

    LO-2-162H is an oblique photo of the north face of Copernicus looking north. I will post the technical data in the next couple of days. The Lunar Orbiter cameras were launched in 1965-1966 and 1967. There were 5 Orbiters. They sent back thousands of crystal clear photos of the moon. As I mentioned most of these photos have been retouched.
