refractor vs newton - Beginning Deep Sky Imaging - Cloudy Nights

Contrast in a picture is the result of your post-processing flow, and largely independent on the optics' features; and, by the way, the impact of CO in mid-large Newtonian is often negligible, and high-quality optics have high contrast regardless of the design (refractor=high contrast is more an act of faith than anything else...).

Upgrade the Newtonian, or buy a refractor?

Page 1 of 2 - Upgrade the Newtonian, or buy a refractor? (astrophotography) - posted in Beginning Deep Sky Imaging: Hi all, Ive had a 8 Skywatcher Newtonian on a dobsonian mount for about ten years now (203x1200mm - F5.9). I have taken pictures of the moon using 2 prime focus with a canon 40d and a 2x barlow, but that is about it, other than star trails.

Newtonian Astrograph vs refractor - Stargazers Lounge

    https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/262058-newtonian-astrograph-vs-refractor/
If you are starting out in astrophotography then you need to keep it as simple as possible. Most start with an 80ED refractor on something like an HEQ5 (Usable) or EQ6 (better). What is most important is the mount. As focal length increases so does the difficulty of tracking. Large astrographs require a larger mount and, a lot of skill from the ...

Why a Refractor Telescope Is Your Best Option for …

    https://astrobackyard.com/refractor-telescope-astrophotography/
If you’re getting started in deep-sky astrophotography, I believe that a compact apochromatic (APO) refractor telescope is the best possible choice. A compact APO refractor is portable and lightweight, making it a smoother transition from the camera lenses you may be used to. In fact, in many ways, a high-quality apochromat is very much like ...

Types of telescope: Refractor, reflector, Newtonian or …

In broad terms a Dobsonian telescope tends to be physically bigger than a Newtonian telescope. Celestron 76mm Dobsonian Firstscope. (Image credit: Celestron) Whichever type of telescope you have ...

Collimating a Newtonian Reflector for Astrophotography

    https://astrobackyard.com/aligning-my-newtonian/
The process of constantly collimating a Newtonian reflector is a big reason I generally prefer to use my apochromatic refractor. That being said, once tuned in, the light-soaking power of that fast 8″ mirror is hard to ignore. Not to mention that this telescope has a focal length of 800mm compared to the wider 480mm in my Explore Scientific ED80.

Dobsonian vs Newtonian – Is there a difference?

    https://www.odysseymagazine.com/dobsonian-vs-newtonian/
Of course, the main feature of later reflectors, as well as one of the main differences between reflectors and refractors is whether the telescope in question uses a lens or a mirror. Most Newtonian telescopes use special ‘parabolic’ mirrors.

Maksutov Newtonian Review: The Ultimate Astrograph?

And there is also the price. Yes, they are more expensive than a typical Newtonian reflector, but if you want a top quality ED Apochromatic refractor for astrophotography, the Maksutov Newtonian is much cheaper for a given aperture. Best Maksutov Newtonian Telescopes

Refractor or Reflector – Which is “Best” for …

Refractors whose main image-forming element is a lens and; Reflectors, both Newtonian and compound, like Schmidt-Cassegrain, Maksutov, classical Cassegrain, ... (My Dad was a Texan, so I can get away with that.) From your perspective, which design is “better” for astrophotography - Refractor or Reflector? Best Regards,

Refractor vs reflector telescope: which is better?

    https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/buyers-guides/first-telescope-reflector-or-refractor/
For more on this, read out guide on how to collimate a Newtonian telescope. A refractor, on the other hand, will remain collimated for years, making it an ideal grab-and-go telescope for those who like to travel to a local dark-sky site, or even further abroad. That said, the collimation process for a reflector is quickly learnt and fast to ...
