ED80 80mm f/7.5 Apochromatic Refractor Telescope

    https://www.telescope.com/Orion-ED80-80mm-f75-Apochromatic-Refractor-Telescope/p/9895.uts
This is one sweet telescope for astrophotography or visual use. It's a sweet telescope all right. With a focal length of 600mm (f/7.5), the "ED80" is wonderfully suited for visual applications on both solar system and deep-sky objects as well as for prime-focus astrophotography and charge coupled device or, "CCD" imaging.

First Images with the Orion ED 80: M81 and M82. is a "first light" shot with our new Orion 80 ED, which looks like it is going to work out great for wide-field shots. This was shot through a fuzzy cloud, but both galaxies still show …

Orion 80ED on CG-5GT mount with GPS unit, great GOTO for quick astrophotography but polar alignment a little involved to make it a good grab and go if moving to different locations. A little larger than needed for a guide …

Celestron C80ED and Orion's ED80 - Astromart

    https://astromart.com/reviews-and-articles/reviews/telescopes/refractors/show/celestron-c80ed-and-orions-ed80
The scope is all metal, and differs from the Orion in a couple of ways. First, the OTA is 90mm in diameter as opposed to the 100mm diameter of the Orion ED80. One interesting aspect of the telescope is the "tube ring". It fits very tightly and when I removed the ring, it left some dull areas in the paint.

Orion 80ED by Ylem » Sun Sep 01, 2019 1:40 am Hey all, I have been eyeing this thing for years. At $449. it seems like a good buy, for years it was 499, and even 525. With looming tariffs, who knows. I'm not really a refractor guy, other than my lovable ST80 So I was looking for some opinions, oh strictly visual Thanks Clear Skies, -Jeff

the SkyWatcher CF 80ED triplet is a Carbon Fiber body (instead of Aluminum) and it likely costs ~C$ 600 more than the Aluminum body version with same optics. If on a budget, just get the Aluminum version for less money. I also think that you may want to consider this OTA (SW Black Diamond 80ED) for a much less price (C$ 834).

Imaging with Orion ST-80? - Beginning Deep Sky Imaging - Cloudy …

If you leave the standard lens cap on and just remove the smaller central one, you'll reduce the aperture from 80mm to about 50mm. That will make it f/8 rather than f/5 but you'll reduce quite a lot of the aberrations by doing so. You'll have to decide if the benefit is worth the extended exposure times.
