I've changed the exposure and tried a few different modes but the pictures always come out basically black, with only the lightest part of the picture showing. - The k50 is about 1.5 yrs. old, and failed after 1050 or so shots which seems to be the norm for failure. I've been using Pentax for 30 yrs. My recent Pentax is a K1, and the Pentax Utility 5 doesn't work correctly even with the update.

- Hello - recently, my K-50 just gives me very very dark pictures. Even in broad day light at an auto mode (so that I know it is not my bad photographic skills). This happens with any lens (one is only manual, but still). Any guidance would be appreciated. I can post a picture I took outside on a sunny day in automode if it helps. 21 comments

- 19 June 2017 Pentax K-30 and K-50 have a problem with the aperture control block mechanism within the camera that causes them to not actuate the aperture, hence giving only black photos. This is due to a small solenoid within the camera, that over time becomes more magnetized and fails to actuate.
