    The most reliable way is to hold the coin on a printed surface to determine how many lines of print can be seen clearly reflected on the coin. A proof-like coin should have a minimum of 2-4 inches of print clearly visible, while for a coin to be deep mirror proof-like it should have as many as 6-8 inches of print visible.

    One method is a white piece of paper and a small ruler. Place the ruler on a white piece of paper, use cotton gloves to hold the coin at a slight angle, and if you can clearly see at least the 6 inch mark clearly on the ruler, without distortion, then the coin is possibly a DMPL coin, but should at least be Proof Like.
