- I have the MeFoto Roadtrip tripod. The most I've put on it is a 1ds with a 70-200 f4, so not quite as much as you're gonna need, but close. I'll say that it might take a little extra to get the composition to work right but if you have a low budget and need a lightweight setup (I take it backpacking) then it's a great tripod that you can make work with anything.

Most people buy a really shitty tripod first, realize it's wobbly and useless, then buy a better one, realize they want a lighter tripod, then spend some real money on a great tripod. If you want to go all-out, there probably is nothing better than a RRS carbon fibre tripod.

- The first cheap (<$30) tripod I bought had a bolt shear off immediately, like the first time I tried it out, dropping the camera. Fortunately I caught the camera and there was no damage. Returned the $30 tripod, bought one for $300, no problems since. Tripods (or any stands in general) are a great place to invest in quality.
