The key to SD14 infrared photography is post processing. In the example here, I did everything in Sigma's Photo Pro Version 3.5.2 software (SPP). The SPP Adjustment window showing the histogram also points out some aspects of how the SD14 operates: The histogram shows that the red channel starts midrange and saturates.

Carefully place the IR filter on lens, then take your shot.-Gary. We should also bear in mind that the AF sensor is made for visible light (conforms to CIE photopic response +/- a few percent) and sees little IR power to focus with. My SD14 rarely AF'd correctly even with a Marumi 700nm on the lens.

Review: Sigma sd14 - Pawel Debik

It blocks IR light, so if you add an infrared filter that that blocks visible light, everything gets very, very dark. Being able to shoot Infra Red images hand held is a really amazing experience. Look at this infra red image here for instance. This train was doing about 120 kph and it was photographed hand held, while riding a bike!

Using the SD14 for IR photography is quite handy, because removing the IR blocking filter is so easy. But having an DSLR without a screen can make it difficult to control image framing. Hence I am using the 10 to 20 mm f3.5 ultra wide zoom, not to get a narrow angle too much (and actually this image is cropped to 16:9 ratio).
