If you're not ready for that then aperture priority is best bet. For your lens, you'll want to set aperture at f5.6. bump up the ISO until you're either at 1600 or have shutter speeds AT LEAST 1/1000. Don't let shutter go below 1/500 but try for at least 1/1000. That may not be possible on overcast day with f5.6 though.

Where a fast shutter speed is used to freeze motion and a slow shutter speed is used to blur move, a broad aperture is used to isolate the subject, past blurring the groundwork. In sports photography, this is where a fast lens becomes incredibly handy. When we say a “fast lens”, nosotros mean something with a fixed aperture of f/two.viii or lower.

Aperture priority or shutter priority for sports? : photography

The important thing in sports is to keep the shutter above a certain threshold, often 1/500 of a second. If you're outside in bright light, that's easy. In those cases, aperture priority might make more sense. If you dial in a shutter speed of 1/500 of a second, and focus on something really bright, your camera might go to f22 to grab the shot.

Aperture priority vs shutter priority – which is better?

    https://thelenslounge.com/aperture-priority-vs-shutter-priority/
Sports photographers favour shutter priority, to ensure that they freeze movement. Just because you’re in shutter priority, doesn’t mean that you don’t have to think about the exposure settings. When using shutter priority, you need to be aware of your aperture, especially if the light is low or you don’t have a fast lens.

As you’ll remember from Issue No.53, the aperture is the hole through which light gets to your camera’s sensor. In Aperture Priority mode you select how big or small you want that opening to be by adjusting your camera’s command dial — the camera will automatically select an appropriate shutter speed to correctly expose the shot.
