    In 1887 Johannes and Adolf began combing magnesium powder and potassium chlorate to create a new type of flash powder. Being able to create a bright flash of instant light studio photographers could now take pictures in very dark conditions. However, the new powder was actually an explosive, accidents were commonplace.
