    yes - a tripod is a poor idea for most sports photography - since you often have to move out of the way. Monopods are useful for heavy lenses, but they can be restrictive to - because you can't pivot as well . It all depends on the sport and the gear being used.

    2 As others have written, a monopod is more useful for most sports. I'm note sure about the advantages of a carbon fibre monopod; they are much more expensive and don't offer that great a weight saving. The only sport where I use a tripod is cricket, because generally you pick one spot and don't move from it for a while -- hide signature --
