Thoughts on stopping down despite diffraction? : photography

Now, I understand the need to stop down when using film, something that Peterson starting shooting with, but I wonder if the image degradation from stopping down is worth it on modern high megapixel DSLRs. On my D800, for instance, diffraction becomes noticeable after about f/11 on almost every lens I have.

In most shooting cases there’s not really a drastic need for one f stop over 1/3 an f stop, but there are times it matters for some people. Some glass can really change characteristics just 1/3 f stop up or down. More often it will be helpful when working with motion when your exposure is perfect, but it’s slightly too blurry or frozen.

Best f-stop for street photography? - Reddit

One suggestion: grab yourself a lens that's about 16mm to 24mm lens for a better "street" focal length. A 50mm is a little bit restricting on a cropped sensor like the D3200's. Stop down to f/11 or f/16 to increase your DOF, and set a slightly higher ISO like ISO 400 or even ISO 1600.
