STREET PHOTOGRAPHY – William Giles Photography

- Steel Stocking From early on, William was interested in becoming a photo-journalist and took a lot of street photography beginning in Ithaca, NY. Later, he pursued street photography in black neighborhoods while serving in the Navy while stationed in Tennessee. Sadly, most of this work was lost when his studio was mysteriously raided.

- William has always shown a keen and empathetic interest in people. In 1953, during his 2nd year at Cornell, William opened Bill’s Photography Studio. During this time, he met and subsequently visited Yousuf Karsh numerous times at his Toronto studio where he learned many of the master’s lighting and photographic techniques.
