- My first SLR was a Zenit E. The 12XP is newer, and more sophisticated. Both are uncomplicated cameras. You advance the film lever to wind on the film and cock the shutter and mirror. Once it's cocked, you cannot wind on further. Thump the shutter release, and you get an exposure which may be similar to the shutter speed set on the dial.
