Measuring approximately four inches by six inches and mounted on cardstock (similar to cardboard), cabinet card photos got their name from their size—they were just the right size to be displayed on a cabinet.

    Eventually, the cabinet photo came in three sizes: No. 1 5.25 x 4, No. 2 5.75×4, and Special 6 x 4.25. All the cabinets were mounted on 6.5 x 4.25 card stock. An interesting byproduct of the increased size and detail of the photo was that the public and the photographers began being more critical of how the photo was framed and how the object looked in the photo.
